The Alberta Elder Abuse Conference 2011 is presented by the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Network. Established in 2002, this province-wide group of representatives from government, community agencies and stakeholder organizations works to increase community awareness and develop resources to address elder abuse.
Who will come?
The Alberta Elder Abuse Conference 2011 will bring together professional front line staff and volunteers who are working with seniors and who might come into contact with individuals impacted by elder abuse. This conference will be of interest to various professionals and community support workers including social workers, nurses, health care aides, family and community support services, criminal law and law enforcement as well as family and friends.
Speakers will address topics under the following themes:
- Prevention, Protection and Harm Reduction, and other Supports in Community
- Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice System
- Elder Abuse and the Aging Process
- Screening and Risk Detection
Keynote speakers
- Laura Watts, Past National Director, Canadian Centre for Elder Law.
- Judith Wahl, Executive Director Advocacy Centre for the Elderly.
- Phil Callaway, Award-winning author and speaker.
- Dr. Daphne Nahmiash, Chairperson of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Community Committee on Elder Abuse and member of the National Seniors Council.
